About Heartell Press
It can be hard to find the right card or gift to express how you feel, especially when the people you care about are going through hard times. At Heartell Press we use sustainable materials and simple block print illustrations to create meaningful cards and gifts so you can nurture your relationships through all of life's ups and downs.
Our Art for Change Project is a collection of postcards (great for sending to elected representatives) and art prints that generate funding for organizations that support BIPOC and LGBTQ+ small business owners.
Abundance is a state of mind that’s easier to cultivate when you have sustainable tools that let you focus on what’s important, and our Generous Kitchen collection of stain-hiding kitchen towels, greeting cards and art prints celebrate the ingredients you love (and the memories and experiences they evoke) using eco-friendly materials so you can savor every moment with the people care about.
We believe that the root of joy is found in our relationships. We believe that growth is non-linear, that beauty is healing, and that stillness and silence are worth seeking out. We believe everyday creativity can be a vehicle for generating positive change in the world. We believe in embracing the adventure, and savoring every moment.
Our Story
We are a women-owned and operated small business based in Indiana. Our story started when printmaker and illustrator Rachel Kroh was inspired to hand-carve woodblocks and print them to make cards after she had trouble finding the kind of warm, sincere designs she wanted to send to her mom who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. You can read more about Heartell started here and here. Since then we have grown to a team of seven and today we are grateful to have the privilege of sending our handmade cards and gifts to card writers (and card keepers), cooks (and eaters), readers and gardeners and care givers like you all over North America and Europe. Our cards and gifts are sold in more than 800 gift shops, museum stores, florists, bakeries and bookstores worldwide.
Our Products
Heartell Press letterpress greeting cards are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper using an antique press with hand-carved wood blocks. The Indigo and offset printed cards and prints are designed in the same way with hand-carved blocks and then reproduced on recycled paper using HP Indigo and offset presses to create rich, matte images. Our Generous Kitchen Towels and Sponge Cloths are dyed with non-toxic pigments and screenprinted with water-based inks.
Our Team
Rachel Kroh
Founder and Creative Director
Rachel Kroh is a printmaker whose thoughtful, moving illustrations help people meaningfully connect with each other. Rachel believes that art can help us live fully in the moment, and be the agents of love and change we want to be. Her stationery, wall art and textiles are sold in over 800 retailers across North America and Europe. The art critic Jerry Saltz once used the words “radical sincerity” to describe her paintings and sculptures, and unabashed wholeheartedness is a thread that runs through all of her work. Rachel loves to cook and spend time outside with her husband and two redheaded little boys.
Erin Duddy
Production Manager
Erin runs our print shop and oversees all our letterpress printing. She is a local illustrator with a background in graphic design and screen printing. She also curates art exhibits in Fort Wayne and is a board member of HeART of the City, organizing local art events. She enjoys traveling and pulls inspiration from the street art she encounters.
Kristin King
Operations Manager
Kristin is our Operations Manager and works directly with our customers to ensure a smooth ordering process from start to finish. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Saint Francis and continues to stay involved in the literary community by working as a freelance writer in her spare time. She has contributed to several local publications and has worked with a handful of literary magazines and publishers around the country such as Coffee House Press and Juxtaprose. Kristin is an avid reader who spends most of her time hunting for unique and eclectic decor for her historic home she shares with her partner and their cats.
Tori Morris
Fulfillment Specialist & Customer Relationships Manager
Tori lovingly prepares our cards and gifts for shipping. With a background in cosmetology, she continues to freelance as a hair and makeup artist for weddings and styled shoots for friends and family. When she’s not in the studio, Tori is spending time with her husband, little girl, and 2 cats. Tori brings a unique and creative energy to the Heartell studio (and makes the most beautiful charcuterie boards you've ever seen).
Emily Andrews
Letterpress Printer
Emily is our production assistant, helping Erin run the press and manage production to ensure a steady flow of beautiful cards. When she's not at Heartell, she handles administrative tasks for her family’s business, TLC In-Home Pet Care. In her spare time, Emily volunteers at local nature preserves, with the Little River Wetlands Project being her favorite.
Emily loves exploring new creative hobbies like crocheting, making clay jewelry, scrapbooking, and even attempting stained glass making. Most importantly, she cherishes time with her fiancé and their pitbull. You can often find them watching movies and trying out new tequilas!
Aubry helps in both production and fulfillment at Heartell, getting to print cards on the press as well as preparing orders to be sent out. Before working at Heartell, she was an Art teacher and still enjoys being creative in many ways. She grew up quilting with her grandma, double majored in ceramics, and recently started her own cookie decorating business. Outside of work, Aubry enjoys doing ministry with her husband, chasing around her daughter and going on walks with her dog.
Athena Harden
Marketing Manager
Athena assists in the marketing aspects here at Heartell, with a background in fine art photography, administration + massage therapy. Her free time is often spent exploring the outdoors, finding plants to press in her books and foraging mushrooms to cook with. She travels internationally as often as possible, staying in touch with her loved ones via letters and postcards.
